It appeared in the second half of the twentieth century as a reaction to the dynamic economic growth seen in many countries around the world, which was often observed in conditions of excessively intensive and uncontrolled use of natural resources.
However, if this increased mining activity is to ultimately result in more than just holesintheground, the crucial mineral linkages need to be realized while the resources are still extant.
