I took this to the extreme and after of ~30 hours of minecraft with maxed out equipment I got this results: Cave mining: ~80 diamonds, ~350 iron ore, ~90 gold, ~250 redsone blocks . Branch mining: ~140 dia, ~200 iron, ~60 gold, dunno how much RS . Mining out a space 100x100x10 blocks (exactly): ~15 dia, ~100 iron, ? gold, ~150 RS blocks.
